Sport shooter and developer of TargetSpotter.
I’m Felix, 60, I live in Brilon in the Sauerland region of Germany, and I’m the developer of TargetSpotter.
I came to shooting late – I only started in 2024. I shoot sport pistol, free pistol and air pistol, and most of my training is air pistol.
Why TargetSpotter exists
From the start it bothered me that every look through the spotting scope meant breaking my position. Head down, eye to the eyepiece, back into position – and the rhythm is gone. On top of that, constantly looking through the scope tires the eyes.
So I developed a digital hit display for the smartphone. The hit appears on the screen, and I stay in position.
No progress without feedback
If you want to improve as a shooter, you need feedback: what did I do, and what came of it? Fire 15, 20 or 40 shots and only then look at the target, and you see a group of holes but no connection. That’s nothing you can grow from. What matters is seeing the hit while you still remember how the shot felt.
The app grows the same way
TargetSpotter is no different. The app is an ongoing development, and it only grows through feedback – yours. So don’t hesitate to write and tell me which circumstances led to which result: which scope, which target, which light, what worked and what didn’t.
TargetSpotter is a private project. There’s no company and no team behind it – just a shooter who built the tool he was missing.
What TargetSpotter does – and deliberately doesn’t
It all started as a pure hit display. Today the app can:
- Show hits live – with the Wi-Fi camera at the target, even when the target is 300 metres away
- Score targets with AprèsShot: photograph the target after the series, and the app works out ring values and the total
- Share results
Deliberately left out: statistics, analyses, shooting logs, databases and social media integration. TargetSpotter is meant to do one thing well: show where the shot landed. What you make of it is up to you – not a chart.
That includes data minimisation. The app collects nothing it doesn’t need for its job.
