Shoot on paper and see your hits on the smartphone.

TargetSpotter turns your phone into a smart hit display

The app detects changes in the continuously captured camera image, qualifies them and shows the detected hits on a virtual target. The app detects the shot and starts the detection.

Further functions:

  • Duel program with an automatic start of the sequence when the target turns away.
  • Extended calibration functions
  • Spotting-scope cameras (USB/UVC) are detected and used automatically.
  • Fixed Wi-Fi camera (RaspiCam 3MP).

Detection zone

Due to technical limits (camera resolution) and to keep the recognition rate high, detection is limited to:

  • 25 m precision: ring 6 and inward
  • 10 m air pistol: ring 5 and inward
  • 25 m duel: ring 8 and inward
  • 50 m smallbore: ring 1 and inward
  • Rifle 100 metres: from ring 1
  • Rifle 300 metres: from ring 1

TargetSpotter is therefore aimed at ambitious sport shooters who regularly hit the black.

Three ways to capture the image

TargetSpotter scores whatever the camera sees – where the image comes from is up to you. Three routes lead to the target image.

Smartphone camera on the scope

The smartphone is attached to the eyepiece of the spotting scope with a mount. The phone camera looks straight through the scope at the target.

USB/UVC camera on the scope

A USB camera is fitted onto the spotting scope and connected to the smartphone via USB-C. The phone stays free and sits within reach on the shooting bench.

Method 2
Fixed camera on a tripod beside the target on the range

Fixed camera at the target

A permanently installed camera in front of, beside or above the target sends its images into the local Wi-Fi. TargetSpotter uses those images for hit detection – no spotting scope needed.

Method 3
Which method suits which discipline depends on the distance: up to 25 metres TargetSpotter works with the phone camera on the spotting scope, and at 25 m precision optionally with a scope camera as well. From 50 metres – smallbore, 100 m and 300 m rifle – scoring runs through the fixed Wi-Fi camera at the target. All targets and their method

The captured images are used for:

  • automatic target detection
  • locating the centre
  • detecting the ring geometry
  • perspective transformation / homography
  • referencing the target image
  • image comparison before and after the shot
  • automatic hit coordinates
  • deriving the ring value from the hit position

All of this happens on the device itself. No data is stored permanently on the smartphone or on the camera.

Compatibility note TargetSpotter detects hits from the camera image of your smartphone, a spotting-scope camera or a Wi-Fi camera. Recognition quality depends strongly on the smartphone, the camera mount, the spotting scope and the lighting conditions. The app does not require a high-end smartphone, though. Please test compatibility with your setup in the free version first, before you take out the annual subscription. No guarantee can be given that it will work with every smartphone or spotting-scope model.

Score the target afterwards

AprèsShot evaluates a photo of the shot target – after shooting, at the range or at home. You photograph the target with your phone, TargetSpotter finds the hits and works out the ring values.

  • Take a photo of the shot target; the hits are detected and scored.
  • No spotting scope, no camera at the range, no connection to the target.
  • Results can be saved.
  • Handy for targets that were shot without live scoring.

The free version stores up to 3 AprèsShot results, the annual subscription an unlimited number.
